CLINICS
Asthma Clinic
Asthma affects at least two people in fifty. By understanding the condition and how to treat it, you can help yourself and the doctor keep your asthma under control.
The aims of this clinic are to:
- Educate patients about their asthma condition and medication involved.
- Monitor their symptoms and improve their control and therefore their lifestyles.
The nurses can advise or you may be referred by your doctor.
Blood Tests
Blood can be taken by our in-house
phlebotomist between 8.30am-12 noon each weekday by appointment.
Cervical Screening
This important aspect of preventative
medicine is readily available at the practice and appointments can be made to
have this simple test undertaken by the nurses or your own doctor where appropriate.
Child Health Surveillance
All babies are requested to attend
for their initial check-up between six to ten weeks of age. This is to assess
such things as growth, hearing, development etc. Special time is set aside, so
please try to attend or let us know as early as possible if you cannot make the
appointment.
Childhood Immunisation
Children should have protection against
diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, MMR, HIB and Men C. You will be contacted
by letter when these immunisations are due.
Contraception
All the doctors provide advice on
the various forms of contraception, including caps and coils. This, like all services
provided by the practice, is completely confidential. Emergency contraception
is available.
Counselling
Counsellors are available and your doctor can refer if appropriate.
Dermatology
You may be referred by your doctor to our skin clinic.
Diabetic Clinic
Most of our diabetic patients are
looked after at these clinics, although some with particular problems will still
go to hospital. The nurses can advise or you may be referred by your doctor.
Health Promotion
We strongly support the emphasis
and trend towards health education and self-reliance. Each person is largely responsible
for their own state of health. Prevention is far better than cure and many conditions
can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle without the need for drugs and treatment.
The doctors and, in particular, the practice nurses will always be ready to offer
help and encouragement.
Hypertension Clinic
High blood pressure is a condition
which if untreated can lead to damage of the eyes and kidneys and increase the
incidence of heart disease. If you suffer from raised blood pressure, the doctor
may refer you to the nurse for advice and monitoring of the problem.
Influenza Vaccination
Each winter a programme for flu vaccination is carried out at the surgery. It is strongly recommended that patients at greatest risk, ie the elderly, diabetics, asthmatics and those with a history of heart disease, take advantage of this vaccination.
Maternity
There is a midwife available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons by appointment and our GPs will also undertake antenatal/postnatal care and pre-conceptual advice.
Minor Surgery Clinic
Problems suitable for in-house surgery
include vasectomies, the removal of cysts, moles and other small growths, ingrowing
toenails etc. Your doctor will be able to give advice. Additionally, the doctors
can also treat other skin lesions, eg warts, with liquid nitrogen (Cryotherapy)
and will be able to give advice.
New Patient Health Check
People joining this practice should
undergo a new patient health check. This will be undertaken by the doctor or one
of the nurses.
Smoking
Our doctors and nurses can give advice to help you stop smoking. There is a local smoking cessation helpline on freephone 0800 085 2113.
Specimens
These should be placed in the collection
box in our specimen room, which is located by the rear entrance, before 12 noon
each weekday.
Travel Clinic
The nurses can advise on and administer
the vaccinations you will need for your holiday. They will also advise on malaria
treatment. However, we are unable to administer certain vaccinations eg yellow
fever, so please discuss your travel requirements with one of our nurses beforehand
and complete an Immunisation for Foreign Travel form.
Well Person Checks
The nurses can advise or, alternatively,
speak to your doctor.
